Israel Prime Minister Ehud Olmert contemplates his next move as he matches up against Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah.
Israel, Lebanon To Settle Dispute With Game Of Risk

HAIFA, Israel (CAP) - As Israel and Lebanon faced off by launching air strikes at each other, world leaders huddled to determine a course of action that would keep World War 3 from taking place. In an unusual twist, both sides have agreed to a game of Risk to settle their dispute.

"It was either that or Othello," said UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan, "but the problem isn't so black-and-white. Plus, this way the whole world can get in on the action."

After a day of play, Israel has won dice battles for Greenland, Northwest Territory, Congo and Madagascar, while Lebanon has built up its armies in Peru, Venzuela, Ukraine and Iceland. However, Israel has filed an official dispute with the UN over Lebanon's initial control of Irkutsk.

"Everyone knows that Irkutsk and Yakutsk are the keys to this game," said Harvard University Leisure Studies professor Langley Holcomb. "But Israel is clearly thinking ahead by building a stronghold in Madagascar early. If things turn sour, they can retreat there and regroup. Good move."

UN weapons inspectors are investigating allegations that plastics factories in Beirut have halted regular production in order to mass-produce roman numeral pieces for Lebanon's army. Reports that Lebanon has stacked New Guinea and Western Australia with counterfeit "L" armies remain unfounded.

Board game pundits say it may take years for the game - and therefore the crisis in the Middle East - to reach resolution. If the game goes on too long, world leaders may recommend switching to Feudal or Stratego in order to wrap things up in a more timely fashion.
