NEW YORK (CAP) - Consumers are scrambling for this year's gotta-have-it gadget: a home version of the world-famous Large Hadron Collider. The LHC Mini by Swiss+Tech Tools lets kids collide their own proton beams, turning mundane particle physics into hours of unsupervised fun.
"As long as they wear safety goggles and a lead apron, each sold separately, the LHC Mini is as safe as any hadron collider on the market," a company spokesperson said in response to a Consumer Affairs report warning against the toy.
"We even scaled it back from seven teraelectronvolts to three to get UL approval," he added. "Plus it clearly states right on the box that it's only for ages eight and up."

Despite its name, the LHC Mini still runs about the size of a bay window and has to be plugged into five outlets to operate.
This product is available at all Brooks, Rite-Aid and Walgreen's pharmacies, as well as anywhere other fine hadron colliders are sold.
