Eleven Hurt In Brawl At Volkswagen Dealership

JERSEY VILLAGE, Tex. (CAP) - Eleven people were treated for minor injuries yesterday after police broke up a fight in the parking lot of the Momentum Volkswagen dealership, which reports say involved as many as two dozen people at one point. The melee began shortly before noon between two male patrons and quickly escalated.
"When we arrived at the scene at 12:17, we observed no fewer than 15 people assaulting each other with use of only their fists," said Chief of Police Eric Foerster. "We do not believe this activity to be gang or race related as the individuals involved did not appear to have a preference as to whom they were hitting.
"In fact, I would describe it as one of the most methodical fights I've ever seen," added Foerster. "Almost as if they were taking turns."
According to the police report, all but one of the eleven injuries included some sort of contusion to the upper arms and each of the individuals were treated at the scene. A 27-year-old Aldine man was taken to North Cypress Medical Center for treatment of lacerations and a broken nose and was released later that evening.
One passerby who claimed to have seen the fight break out said the man who broke his nose was "totally sucker-punched" in what had been described as a "clean fight" up to that point. The witness said the man began gesturing wildly at a nearby black car after being punched, and she could overhear him saying something about "no punch back."
However, a 23-year-old Houston woman who was involved in the fight told CAP News that the man deserved what he got because as the scuffle increased in size, he was walking around giving everyone "two for flinching."
Dealership officials said this is the first time anything of this nature has ever happened and while they don't condone the violence, they appreciate the passion that was displayed over their vehicles.
"Although I'd imagine this happens all the time at the factory," noted one sales associate. "As soon as those people are able to lift their arms over their heads, we invite them back to test drive one of our cars, and we promise a fracas-free experience."
Police did not arrest anyone following the fight, but did hand out 16 citations for disorderly conduct and one for illegal punch-back. They are still investigating false claims of flinching but said security footage of the parking lot appears to justify the claims so it's unlikely any charges would be filed.
"Even though one man involved in the fight claimed to 'win' based on some sliding point scale that he and the others seemed to have an unspoken agreement about, we'd like to remind the public that there are no winners when it comes to violence," said Foerster. "Well, except the police department for all the money those citations are going to bring in. But other than that."
Foerster said that since no employees were involved in the disturbance, the dealership would not be held liable for the actions of those who were. However, he noted that the upfront pricing on Momentum's 2012 inventory and new car "are just criminal."
