Mousavi Spotted Apartment Hunting In NY

NEW YORK (CAP) - In what may be the most damning indication yet that Iran's opposition is deteriorating comes word that opposition leader Mir Hossein Mousavi was recently seen looking at apartments in New York City. Eyewitnesses tell CAP News that Mousavi spent the bulk of yesterday afternoon at Trump Place.
"When you're just coming off a failed attempt to restore democracy to a nation that hasn't seen it in this lifetime, you want a little more than a studio in Astoria," said Tulane University Middle Eastern studies professor Rakhandar Sumari. "And if you can get heat and hot water included, all the better."
According to residents of Trump Place who confirmed the sighting, Mousavi was very interested in a modest one-bedroom apartment facing the Hudson River that reportedly goes for over $3,000 per month. The realtor listing the apartment said Donald Trump is anxious to rent the pad as soon as possible, but that he will hold it for a few weeks while Mousavi gets his affairs in order back in Iran.
"Mousavi needs to assure his people that even though he's moving half-way around the world to New York's upper West Side, he still feels their pain and suffering," said Sumari. "Then he needs to get the hell out before Ahmadinejad throws his ass in jail."
The head of Mousavi's presidential campaign, Saeid Shariati, said supporters would continue to send their candidate links to internet videos to keep him abreast of the goings-on in Iran. He said Mousavi's extensive use of the microblogging tool Twitter would also allow his people to keep up with what he had for breakfast and what cool websites he came across while relaxing in his apartment.
"Things are not easy for our leader in the New York as he not only is feeling the pain of our people, but also beginning to understand the pain of Americans as they are living through the break-up of Jon and Kate," said Shariati. "Oh, and he said he had Grape Nuts for breakfast and they were very good."
However, a small but growing number of supporters are beginning to question Mousavi's tactics, saying that a revolution is best served when its leader is directly involved in it. Calling him "the Steve Jobs of the Iranian opposition," detractors say if Mousavi won't come to them, they'll go to Mousavi and hold protests along Riverside Boulevard.
"The twice daily video conference calls are great but not the same as a rally in person," said one former supporter who acknowledged they have placed an ad on Craig's List seeking an interim opposition leader. "This whole thing has a very Max Headroom feel to it."
Political analysts believe Mousavi's remote supervision could pave the way for other world leaders to seek safer lodgings from which to manage their country's doings. They say that should North Korean leader Kim Jong Il launch a nuclear attack against the U.S., he will likely do so while unwinding at his Colorado ranch.
