RICHMOND, Va. (CAP) - According to new research, eating a big breakfast, heavy in carbs, is the key to keeping slim, as long as you regurgitate the meal afterwards.
A new study found that women who throw up half of their daily calories first thing in the morning lose more weight in the long term than those who start the day with a small breakfast that remains in their stomach.
And they are also less likely to pile the pounds back on, as long as they keep up with the upchucking.
"We treat obese people by telling them to eat less and exercise more, but we've found what's even more important is not to let the food stay in your system, where it can easily be converted to fat," said the study's lead author, Dr. Daniella Jabukowicz. "With this plan you get a big, hearty, fattening breakfast - and because you know it won't pack on the pounds, it's twice as satisfying coming back up."
"As we like to say, Garbage in, garbage out," said Dr. Jabukowicz. "Um - in this case, that's a good thing."

The study did show that being successful on this diet required some lifestyle changes.
"First of all, you have to stick to the program," said Dr. Jabukowicz. "You can't get lazy and say, Oh, just for today I think I'll let this stay down."
Also, there are logistical concerns. "Say you're going to a fancy Mother's Day brunch," said Dr. Jabukowicz. "You've got to plan ahead and make sure there's a place where you can discreetly dispel all those Belgian waffles, cheese blintzes and chocolate mousses. Say, a corner of the parking lot, or a dumpster."
"Many businesses are creating rooms especially for this now," she noted, referring to the "Spew Lounges" that have been established at approximately 30 percent of America's large companies.
For many, the study's results come as no surprise. "We've been suggesting this in our pages for years," commented Kate White, editor-in-chief of Cosmopolitan magazine, which just last month ran a feature story called Ralf Away the Pounds.
"In fact, it's sort of become a rite of passage for our cover girls to heave up their breakfast before we start the shoot," she said. "Everybody laughs and applauds. In their case it's usually just like a raisin or something, but it's the idea that counts."
Dr. Jabukowicz did note that the practices could have some minor side effects, such as esophageal problems, ulcers and organ damage. However, a related study showed that given a choice, eight out of 10 women would choose "slim" over "healthy-organed."
