SANTA MONICA, Calif. (CAP) - Giants of the old-school rap world are uniting in an unlikely brotherhood to speak out against the MTV pseudo-offering Celebrity Rap Superstar, a show which has turned the hip-hop world on its ear.
"This show is embarrassing," said rap legend Young MC. "I mean, our songs, people love our songs, and now you got people like Perez Hilton and Sebastian Bach slurring up all the words, can't carry a beat in a suitcase? Nah, nah, man, we had enough."
An outdoor rally is planned on the Santa Monica Pier for this weekend that will bring together all of the members of the Old School Alliance to protest MTV and the show. In addition to Young MC, Humpty Hump, and Chuck D, attendees will include Sir Mix-a-lot, DJ Jazzy Jeff, MC Rob Base, Peppa (but not Salt), Snow, Hammer, Luther Campbell, and The Real Roxanne, among others.
"The problem is that these people think that rapping is easy," said Vanilla Ice. "But it's not. They think it's just memorizing words, and then saying back those words over music while standing on a stage.

"Well, yo, it is that, yo, but it's more," added Ice. "Much more."
CAP News contacted representatives for Mark Wahlberg to see if he would rally in support of his hip-hop brothers and sisters, but was told "Mr. Wahlberg is now an actor and only an actor."
"While he does not wish to distance himself from The Funky Bunch or any other hip-hop legends, he's far too busy making movies to be concerned with a third-rate MTV reality show," said the representative who refused to give her name. "That said, however, Donny D. is on the back-up."
Officials at MTV declined to comment for this story, but did confirm that a new show is in the works called Celebrity Lounge Superstar, where D-list celebrities will perform soft-rock and lounge-style hits by the likes of Barry Manilow, Neil Diamond, and Elton John.
"Once you see Judge Judy perform Hello by Lionel Ritchie," said MTV Director of Development Terry LaCroix, "you will be hooked on this show, just like we are."
