WASHINGTON (CAP) - The White House has confirmed that President Bush did ask House Speaker Nancy Pelosi if she could fly him to Brazil when he embarks on a five-nation tour of Latin America next month. White House officials would not say whether Pelosi might take him up on the offer.
"I understand Ms. Pelosi has one of them newfangled airplanes that never needs to be refuelized," Bush said. "I think it's the perfect vehicle for my trip to go visit the Latins."
However, there may be ulterior motives behind the reasons why the President is looking to hitch a ride with a Democrat. According to tapes of Oval Office conversations secretly obtained by the CAP News White House mole, Bush expressed concern about spending American taxpayers' money "for a trip to some place I never even heard of."
"How about this?" Bush says on the tape. "Instead of me spending this country's money on gas for Air Force One, we have the Democrats spend their country's money instead. Heh heh. See, Josh, I'm always thinkin'."
During the press conference following the christening of her new personal jumbo jet, The Flying Pelosi, the House Speaker denied she was in talks with the White House to chauffeur the President around Latin America. In fact, she denied that she even had a new plane.
"For the hundredth time, I don't know what you're talking about," Pelosi said as she broke a champagne bottle over the nose of the plane. "Hmm, what? Oh, you mean this? Oh, I didn't ask for this. I asked for something in a mauve."
Reports that Nancy Pelosi may be a member of the mile-high club remain unfounded, but President Bush has already stated that he doesn't think it matters whether or not she has season tickets to the Broncos.
